Passive Homes

We build Passive Houses

‌A Passive House is an innovative and modern approach to building a sustainable home. In essence it incorporates a thermal bridge free design, superior windows, ventilation with heat recovery, quality insulation and airtight construction. New Meaning Construction’s modern methods of construction (MMC) prioritises energy efficiency and sustainability, meeting the exacting standards of the Passivhaus certification (though many clients choose to ‘meet passive standards’ rather than seeking full certification). Unlike traditional construction, which often results in heat loss through numerous joints between floors, walls, and roofs, the passive houses we build offer a high-impact solution to energy efficiency.

Our modular housing starts with sticks. At the heart of every passive house is a treated timber-frame superstructure. The timber frame ‘parts’ can be produced in advance using offsite manufacturing, or we can set up a “flying factory” onsite. We create an envelope around the frame using fire-safe, lightweight environmentally friendly boards. To complete the thermal envelope we inject high-performance insulation material directly into the cavities of floors, walls, and ceilings, creating a seamless, continuous layer of insulation. We protect the envelope’s integrity which means no leaks and unparalleled thermal efficiency.

By employing this method, we ensure that every home we build is not only green but also exceptionally comfortable and cost-effective to maintain.
